Hawaiian culture
Leonore Swim draws its inspiration from Hawaii – not just as a vision of paradise, but as a vibrant place with a rich history, strong traditions, and a deep connection between people and nature. We aim to honor Hawaiian culture by creating something meaningful, with respect, care, and pride.

Spiritual Life Force
The hibiscus flower represents beauty, love, and passion – three core values that define Leonore Swim.
The beauty you carry within.
The love you have for yourself.
The passion that drives you forward in life.
These three principles form the foundation for the inspiration behind Leonore Swim. Kumulipo shows how everything is interconnected, inspiring us to create collections that are carefully thought out and balanced. Aloha is about living with care and harmony, and reflects how we want to create each collection with thoughtfulness, respect, and presence. And finally Mana, which stands for life force, and inspires us to imbue each garment with energy, quality, and pride.
Aloha
Aloha is often translated as love, but its meaning extends far deeper. Aloha is a philosophy of life about how one treats others, nature, and oneself.
The word aloha consists of the following values:
• Akahai — kindness and compassion
• Lokahi — unity and harmony
• ʻOluʻolu — agreeableness and graciousness
• Haʻahā — humility and modesty
• Ahonui — patience and perseverance
To live with aloha means to move through the world with thoughtfulness, respect, and awareness. It reminds us to slow down, listen, and act with intention.
Kumulipo
The Kumulipo is the ancient Hawaiian creation chant. It tells the story of how life originated: from the depths of the ocean to plants, animals, and humans. The core of the Kumulipo is the message that all life is interconnected. Humans are not elevated above nature, but rather a part of it. Sea, land, sky, and humans exist in balance.
The Kumulipo presents a theory of evolution that existed long before Western science described similar principles. After the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893, the sharing of Kumulipo and other cultural knowledge was suppressed, along with language and identity. The Hawaiian understanding of life's interconnections was thus partly lost. Leonore Swim wishes to share this valuable knowledge with Scandinavia, and highlight its significance anew.
The Kumulipo reveals the deeper connections in life, serving as an inspiration for everything created at Leonore Swim. We want each collection to have a clear common thread, and for each product to reflect connection, consciousness, and meaning – in the same way as the theory of Kumulipo.
Mana
Mana is the spiritual energy that flows through everything. It is the life force that connects people, nature, ancestors, and the universe.
In Hawaiian belief, mana can be inherited, built up, or weakened through actions. The gods were considered to possess great mana, but land, sea, and people also carry this energy. How one behaves—with respect or indifference—can strengthen or weaken mana.
When you put on a bikini from Leonore Swim, we want you to feel powerful and confident. In the same way, each garment reflects the Hawaiian concept of Mana – the life force that inspires us to live life with energy, pride, and presence.
Our Responsibility
Leonore Swim does not claim Hawaiian identity or ownership of these traditions. This brand operates from a place of listening, learning, and respect.
As visitors, our role is to honor the land and its people, acknowledge its history, and act with humility. By sharing what we have learned, we hope – in a small way – to contribute to greater awareness and respect for Hawaiʻi's true history.
We believe that inspiration comes with responsibility, and that beauty should never exist without acknowledgment.
With gratitude and Aloha.
